Sarajevo Airport → Jahorina

Estimated taxi/transfer price, journey time and how to book.

Jahorina, the 1984 Olympic ski mountain, rises about 30 km southeast of the airport at over 1,500 m. The road climbs via Pale, so this is a fixed, agreed transfer rather than a city meter ride. In winter demand is high and the roads are snowy, so it pays to pre-book.

How to book & pay

Call a local taxi company, use the Moj Taxi app, or pre-book a private transfer (best for airports and long trips). Agree the price before you leave. For inter-city trips the meter is often not used. Bring cash in BAM; card is not guaranteed.

What the drive is actually like

From Butmir to Jahorina you leave the Sarajevo valley and climb past Trebević and Pale to nearly 1,300 metres. The straight-line distance is small, but the road is a winding mountain one, so the drive takes considerably longer than the mileage suggests. The route also crosses the inter-entity line.

Agree the full price in advance and, in season, check the car has winter tyres or chains. If you're solo, ask about the ski shuttles that run from Sarajevo in winter - sharing a ride is far cheaper.

What specifically goes wrong on this route

In winter this is a genuine mountain drive, not a transfer. When you book, ask whether the car has winter tyres and chains, and what happens if the road closes — in heavy snow it occasionally does. Say how many of you there are and whether you have skis or boards, because it decides the vehicle. Book well ahead for Saturday morning up and Sunday afternoon down: the whole mountain changes over at the same time.
