Banja Luka's airport (BNX) is at Mahovljani near Laktaši, roughly 23 km north of the city, and it handles only a handful of flights a day. That matters practically: cars are not permanently waiting outside, so an unbooked arrival can mean a wait. The city itself spreads widely along the Vrbas, with the Kastel fortress and Gospodska street as its walkable core.

Because the city is spread out rather than dense, ordinary rides here are often longer than visitors expect, but they are metered and reasonable. Banja Luka is also unusual in Bosnia for how many companies use short dial codes — four-digit numbers you call straight from a local mobile. They will not connect from a foreign SIM, which catches people out.
