Međugorje, the world-famous pilgrimage town, is about 25 km southwest of Mostar. It has no railway and limited public transport, so most visitors arrive by taxi or transfer. The ride is short, but demand spikes around major religious dates.

What the drive is actually like
Mostar to Međugorje is about twenty kilometres across the Herzegovinian karst, half an hour. It runs both ways all day: pilgrims based in Međugorje come to see Mostar, and visitors staying in Mostar go out to see Međugorje.
In pilgrimage season, book ahead. Within Međugorje the walks to St James's Church, Apparition Hill and Cross Mountain are short rides or on foot. For groups, a shared transfer is worth it.
What specifically goes wrong on this route
Because the traffic is constant in both directions, finding a car and arranging a return is easier here than elsewhere — but it is also easier to end up in a ride charged per person rather than per car. Ask explicitly. If you are heading for Apparition Hill or Križevac, say so: those are climbs outside the village and not the same thing as "to Međugorje".
