Getting around Tuzla

Arriving

Tuzla is many travellers' first sight of Bosnia because TZL is a low-cost airport with a Wizz Air base, about 9 km from the centre near Dubrave. Flights land at hours that do not match the bus timetable, which is exactly why the arrivals hall has a taxi trade at all. The city itself is flat and walkable around the Panonska jezera salt lakes in the centre.

The important thing to know is that a large share of people landing at TZL are not going to Tuzla at all — they are going on to Sarajevo, roughly two hours away by road. That is a long intercity journey, not an airport transfer, and it is priced accordingly. Tuzla has more listed taxi companies than any other city in our data, and more of them marked around-the-clock, which is the airport's doing.

What to sort out before you pay

Decide before you land whether you are taking a car or the bus onward to Sarajevo. Solo, the bus is far cheaper; with three or four people and luggage, a car stops being extravagant. Either way agree the full price to your exact address first, and be clear whether it is per car or per person — that ambiguity is the usual source of an unpleasant surprise on this particular route.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi in Tuzla?

Per the published operator price list: 5 KM to start (minimum 5 KM), then 1 KM/km (≈ 0,51 €/km). A short ride across the centre works out around 6,50–8 KM (≈ 3–4 €). Prices are in convertible marks (BAM), pegged to the euro at 1 € = 1.95583 KM, so the € figures here are exact conversions and not a floating rate.

Can I pay by card in Tuzla?

Assume not. We have no company here confirmed as taking cards, and across Bosnia the cash-only car is the norm rather than the exception. Carry convertible marks (BAM) in small notes — drivers frequently cannot change a large one. Euros are sometimes accepted informally, but at a rate set by the driver, so an ATM is almost always the better deal.

Is there Uber or Bolt in Tuzla?

No. Uber, Bolt and Lyft do not operate anywhere in Bosnia & Herzegovina, and that is not likely to change soon. The domestic app is Moj Taxi, which works in a few larger cities — though it is built for local users and can be awkward with a foreign number. Calling a company directly still works everywhere. Can I get a taxi at night in Tuzla?

Yes — 6 companies are marked as operating around the clock: Berta Taxi Tuzla, Halo Tuzla Taxi, Gradski Taxi, Radio Taxi Non-Stop, Tuzla Taxi, VIP Taxi Tuzla (VIP Transfer Putnika). Call those first after hours; the rest keep working hours that we cannot confirm.

Why won't the short taxi number work from my phone?

4 companies here use a short dial code, which only connects from a local network. On a foreign SIM or roaming it usually fails. Use the full international number instead — +387 followed by the number without its leading zero. Every call button on this page is already in that format.

How do I get from TZL airport into Tuzla?

By taxi from the official rank or a pre-booked transfer. This leg counts as leaving the city, so it is agreed as a fixed price rather than run on the meter — settle it before you get in, not on arrival. Prices, journey time and what to expect at the exit are on the Tuzla airport taxi page.
