What changes when there's no Bolt
Three things, and only one of them is a real loss. The first is pricing: you swap a fare that moves with demand for one that does not. In practice that favours you — Sarajevo's 2,30 KM/km is the rate at 3am on New Year's Eve as well as on a wet Tuesday afternoon, because the meter is regulated rather than dynamic.
The second is booking. Instead of tapping, you phone — and the dispatcher will ask where you are and where you are going, sometimes in Bosnian. Saying the street name and the neighbourhood slowly gets you most of the way; many operators also take Viber or WhatsApp, which sidesteps the problem entirely if your spoken Bosnian is thin.
The third is the genuine one: no in-app record. There is no receipt, no driver's name saved, no route map afterwards. That only bites in the two places fares go wrong — an unmetered quote at an airport rank, and a long intercity run agreed loosely — and both are fixed by fixing the number before the car moves.
Working out what your ride will cost
Take the city's per-km rate above, multiply by the distance, add the start price, and treat the minimum fare as a floor. A 5 km hop across Bihać works out at about 6–7,50 KM (≈ 3–4 €); the same distance in Sarajevo is roughly 13,50–17,50 KM (≈ 7–9 €). Airport runs are the exception — several are priced as fixed transfers rather than metered, which is usually the better deal on distance.
